Three men face multiple charges

HUMBOLDT - A joint investigation by the Humboldt County sheriff's office and the Pocahontas County sheriff's office has led to the arrest of three area residents, according to information provided by Humboldt County Sheriff Dean Kruger.

Stephen R. Brown Jr., 30, of Gilmore City, was arrested Thursday following the execution of a search warrant at his home, 2535 Birch Ave. Brown was charged with possession of stolen property with an estimated value of more than $10,000, a Class C felony. In addition, he was charged with three counts of second-degree theft, Class D felonies, in relation to the thefts of motorized vehicles that were found on the property. Brown is being held in the Humboldt County Jail under $25,000 bond.

Also arrested Thursday at the residence was Dustin Harris, 24, of Humboldt, and Matthew Gagen, 27, of Mallard. Harris was charged with second-degree theft and driving while barred, an aggravated misdemeanor.

Gagen was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana - both second offenses - aggravated misdemeanors, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor. Harris' bond was set at $7,000, and Gagen's bond was set at $4,200.

Numerous pieces of stolen property were found at the residence, stemming from burglaries and thefts from Humboldt, Pocahontas, Palo Alto and Wright counties. The investigation continues, and additional charges and arrests are possible, according to Kruger.

In addition to the Humboldt and Pocahontas County sheriff's departments, the sheriff's departments of Palo Alto and Wright counties as well as the Fonda and Pocahontas police departments assisted with the search.
