Scott R. Graham, left, funeral director and owner of Bruce-Graham Funeral Home, received the title of Kentucky colonel during the 132nd annual Iowa Funeral Directors Association Convention held in May. Will Muster, right, president of the Funeral Directors Association of Kentucky, presented Graham with letters patent from Kentucky Gov. Steven Beshear.
Kentucky colonel is the highest title of honor bestowed by the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Beginning in 1813, the governor of Kentucky granted the title to individuals in recognition of outstanding service to the state. Once an individual receives his or her colonel’s Commission, he or she is invited to join the Honorable Order of the Kentucky Colonels, a charitable organization founded in 1932.
