Damon Van Bogart and his K-9 Roky are recipients of the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility's June Employee Spotlight Award. The monthly award was established to recognize individuals who have performed outstanding work, demonstrated a commitment to a team atmosphere, participated in a major accomplishment or are/were involved in a project or event in the operation of the facility or in the community.
Van Bogart began his career with the Department of Corrections on Aug. 25, 1995, as a correctional officer and became a senior correctional officer/sargeant at FDCF on July 10, 1998. Roky started at FDCF in October 2008.
Van Bogart and Roky placed third in the nation at the U.S. Police Canine Association national detector dog trials on May 22 in Lakeland, Fla. They took the first-place team trophy with Officer Brent Koch, of the West Des Moines Police Department, and fifth place for inside hides.
