MANSON - Manson native Duane Langenwalter will hold a book signing event at the Manson Public Library from 6-8 p.m. Thursday for his book "Few Words: a hundred waka."

Waka is a classical form of Japanese poem, similar to haiku. It opens with a thought expressed in 17 beats, followed by an answer of 14 beats - 31 beats in total. Rhyme is considered a fault, but pun and word play exalted.

The book represents the conclusion of Langenwalter's literary journey, which began 27 years ago when he wrote his first poem meant to accompany a sculpture on display.

The book encapsulates moments of human life in a few, precisely crafted words on each page.

"Few Words" is available in hardcover at Amazon.com or directly from the author at Duane@outofthinair.com.
