MARSHALLTOWN - The seventh-ranked (Class 4A) Fort Dodge baseball team earned another CIML Iowa Conference sweep Thursday, taking down Marshalltown.
The Dodgers won by scores of 6-2 and 6-1 in the doubleheader.
JC Hatcher took a no-hitter into the seventh in the nightcap, finishing with four strikeouts and three hits allowed for Fort Dodge (15-3 overall, 7-1 in league). Luke Vandermaten, who picked up the win on the mound in the opener, was 4-for-4 at the plate in the second.
"Both pitchers did a wonderful job of commanding the zone," FDSH head coach Matt Elsbecker said. "They competed on the mound, and our defense made some really nice plays behind them. We turned a double play to finish the first game, and Luke had a back-handed play from shortstop in the second.
"Our defense wasn't there right away, and that is something we need to work on as coaches."
The Dodgers broke open a 2-2 tie by scoring four runs in the fourth and fifth innings of the first contest. Will Gormally went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Vandermaten, Sam Edwards, Tommy Halligan, Isaac Lehman and Austin Halligan each had two hits.

In the second, Edwards belted a two-run homer in the first inning, while Vandermaten drove in two on his four hits and Devon Harms connected on an RBI-double.
"When you get 27 hits (combined in the two games), you better win," Elsbecker said. "Marshalltown was able to expose a few areas we need to work on, and that's what we will do."
Fort Dodge will put its nine-game win streak - which includes three consecutive doubleheader sweeps - on the line today in at Urbandale. First-pitch is set for 5:30 p.m.
