Work on a planned downtown street realignment would be postponed to at least 2014, while drainage improvements on the city's east side would be accelerated under an agreement reached by Fort Dodge elected officials Thursday morning.
The agreement, which resembles a compromise first proposed by Mayor Matt Bemrich and Councilman Kim Alstott, would result in road and storm sewer improvements on First Avenue South between 25th and 29th streets starting next year.
The council is expected to discuss the deal during a workshop session on the city's capital improvements plan Monday. That workshop will follow the regular business meeting, which will begin at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 819 First Ave. S.
