Patricia Durand and Carole Stitt, with Trinity Health Systems, have been named to this year's 100 Great Iowa Nurses list.
The Iowa Nurses Association, Iowa Nurses Foundation and the University of Iowa College of Nursing annually recognize nurses who have made a meaningful and lasting contribution to humanity and their profession.
Durand, R.N., C.H.P.N., is with Trinity Hospice. She graduated from Iowa Methodist School of Nursing in 1991 and began her career in Des Moines at Mercy Hospital's neurosurgical unit. She then worked at Mercy's First Step Recovery Center, working with substance abuse and mental health patients for six years. She worked in hospice nursing in the Des Moines and St. Louis areas and is employed at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home.
She and her husband, the Rev. Edward Durand, pastor of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, are the parents of Like, 13, and Maleah, 8.
Stitt, R,N., B.S.N., with Trimark Family Practice Associates, began her nursing career at the University of Iowa, attending the College of Nursing and graduating with her bachelor of science in nursing. For the past 45 years, she has served as a nurse, working the last 25 years as a clinical nurse specializing in the practice of family medicine.
She has been married for 44 years to Dr. Michael Stitt, They have four daughters and nine grandchildren.
