HUMBOLDT - The Humboldt City Council met in special session Wednesday to apply for state funding for the city's airport.
City Administrator Aaron Burnett said the engineer was going over the city's airport zoning ordinance and realized it needed to be revised before the city can proceed with further airport improvements.
The ordinance will have to be rewritten to comply with current regulations, and a comprehensive airport plan for the city and the county must also be written, Burnett said.
Burnet said $2,500 of the funding would be used to comply with the regulations.
"The remaining $90,000 of this request will be fencing to comply with security requirements at the airport. Once we get these out of the way we can move on to the more exciting improvements at the airport. These are some of the things the FAA is requiring that we take care of to apply for future funding," Burnett said.
The city's match for the funding is $15,000.
