He was born April 24, 1932, in Chanute, Kan. He served in the United States Army, and received a master’s degree from Pittsburg State Teachers College, in Pittsburg, Kan. He worked as a teacher, a hearing aid specialist, a school bus driver and regional manager for World Book Encyclopedia, before retiring.
