Man charged with driving while barred

MALLARD - A 21-year-old Mallard man was arrested Thursday during a traffic stop and charged with driving while barred.

Matthew M. Gagen was also charged with driving while suspended for violation of probation, driving without insurance and operating a non-registered vehicle, according to a press release from the Palo Alto County sheriff's office.

Driving while barred is an aggravated misdemeanor.

Gagen was stopped in the 4600 block of 510 Avenue in Palo Alto County. He was taken to the Palo Alto County jail.

Man charged with making threats

Fort Dodge police have arrested a Webster City man after he allegedly made threats to employees at a local store.

Craig A. Ohlert, 51, has been charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon and first-degree harassment.

On April 6, Ohlert allegedly went to Menards and began yelling at the employees there. According to the criminal complaint filed with the Webster County attorney's office, Ohlert threatened to get a gun and return to the store to "get everyone."

Ohlert made his initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court on Thursday. Magistrate Steve Kersten ordered him held on $7,000 bond after learning Ohlert has two prior convictions from the mid-90s relating to harassment of peace officers.

Kersten also told Ohlert that if he's released from jail, he must stay away from Menards. He also said Ohlert must turn over all his guns to the Webster County Sheriff's Department. Ohlert said he doesn't own any guns.

Kersten scheduled Ohlert's preliminary hearing for April 20.
