LAURENS - Heart 'n Home, of Laurens, has been selected as one of the top 10 finalists in the "This is Retail" video contest, sponsored by the National Retail Federation. The finalists were determined after a week of public voting through NRF's Retail Means Jobs website.
"We can't believe that this is happening," said Julie Wurr, owner of Heart 'n Home. "We keep hearing how people are amazed that a small town in the Midwest pulled so many votes."
According to the NRF website, the contest was designed to promote retail as a career and demonstrate the many career choices available within the retail industry.
Heart 'n Home is the only Iowa business in the top ten. Other competitors are from states including Hawaii, Florida, and Maryland. The final 10 businesses will be in a bracket-style voting again from April 10 to April 15.
"We wouldn't have moved into this round of the contest without the support of everyone around. Every vote counts in this contest," she said. "You can vote 10 times each day for the same business. And NRF has confirmed that they will protect your email address. You will not get spam. They are destroying the email addresses after announcing the top 3 winners."
The video was directed and created by Adam Wurr, a media production senior at South Dakota State University.
