CALLENDER - The city of Callender is looking for a new logo and a new slogan for city.
Currently being used is an old drawing of the city hall, which is no longer in Callender.
Members of the Callender Area Revitalization Efforts committee said they see this as a great opportunity to get involved in the community and have been granted the chance to head a search to find a new logo and slogan that is open to the community.
"We thought this would be a great way to get the Prairie Valley students involved in Callender," said C.A.R.E member Brooke Hendrickson, "I spoke with Mr. Hammen and Mr. Bachel to see if they would be interested in getting involved in this. Mr. Bachel thought it was a great idea to get the kids involved and offered to help with accepting all the submitted entries. Together, we decided that all of the entries will be sent to Mr. Bachel and he will keep them confidential until ... April 22, when C.A.R.E will host a public voting at the Callender Community Center."
From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 22, the public is welcome to come to the Callender Community Center and vote on their favorite design. There will be a freewill offering for breakfast during that time. All the profits will go toward unexpected plumbing issues with the Callender Public Library.
Hendrickson said she hopes those who grew up in or have lived in Callender in the past or currently submit their ideas.
"You don't have to be a great artist, we just need great ideas. So if you or anyone you know has a creative mind, please submit your ideas," she said.
Entries should have a logo with a unique design and a slogan with a catchy phrase that best represents the community. Each entry is a chance for the winner to receive either a $100 cash prize or a $100 scholarship. Prizes for the winning logo and slogan design will be presented from the C.A.R.E committee. C.A.R.E encourages the use of colors in the logo, however, the logo should still reflect its original intentions in gray scale since the logo won't always have the luxury of printing/displaying in color.
All entries must be submitted by 3 p.m. on April 16 to Prairie Valley High School, Attn: Bryan Bachel, Logo Contest, Box 49, Gowrie, IA 50543
To be considered, the logo and slogan must be:
No larger than 6 inches by 6 inches
In either black and white or full color
submitted by any student or community member.
During the breakfast, there will also be an opportunity for guests to buy raffle tickets to win a flat screen TV donated by Royal Flooring. Tickets are available at the library, post office, and any C.A.R.E. member or library board member. Each entry is $1 or six for $5, and the winner will be drawn at 1 p.m. April 22. You need not be present to win. To purchase a ticket or to help sell tickets, call C.A.R.E. President Kelli George, 548-3570.
"This will be a great way to bring visitors to Callender to get involved in our community and at the same time helping out the Callender Public Library," said George.
