The exact cause of a blackout that struck part of Fort Dodge Thursday night hasn't been determined, according to a MidAmerican Energy representative.
The outage that affected 2,884 customers occurred because two circuits opened, according to Tina Potthoff, a utility spokeswoman. However, utility workers don't know why those circuits opened, she said.
The blackout started at 8:54 p.m. Power was restored to about 1,000 customers at 10:37 p.m., Potthoff said. Electricity to the remaining customers was restored at 1 a.m. Friday.
The power outage extended from U.S. Highway 169 through the Hillcrest neighborhood east to North 12th Street and as far south as First Avenue South.
