EMMETSBURG - Dorothy M. Twait passed away February 25, 2012. Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 3, 2012 at St. John's Lutheran Church, in Depew, Iowa, with the Rev. David Moore officiating.

Visitation will be Friday, March 2, 2012 from 4 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg.

Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg, Iowa.

Dorothy Mae Chism Twait, daughter of Grover and Iva (Wright) Chism, was born June 14, 1920, at her family's home, near Rodman. She received her education in Cylinder graduating from Cylinder High School in 1938.

On January 10, 1940, Dorothy was united in marriage to Oliver Twait at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union seven children were born.

Dorothy and Oliver farmed near Wallingford and Depew. Dorothy always had a large garden and canned many fruits and vegetables that she grew. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She took great pride in her home and taught all of her children to have a well kept home.

Dorothy was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Depew, where she taught Sunday School for several years. She was a devoted circle and WELCA member and was always willing to volunteer her services for any activities these groups were involved in. Dorothy also did quilting and volunteered at Ingham Lake Bible Camp. She served on the auxiliary board of Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg.

Dorothy and Oliver enjoyed traveling and going on fishing trips. They spent several winters in Pharr, Texas which they looked forward to each year. Dorothy was a faithful E'Hawk fan and always attended her children's and grandchildren's school activities and sporting events. Her family was very important to her and she loved being able to share these experiences with them.

Dorothy passed away Saturday, February 25, 2012, at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg, Iowa, at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oliver; a brother, Howard Chism; a sister, Viola Johnson; a son, Dale; a daughter-in-law, Carol Twait Lowe; and a great-granddaughter, Grace Dandurand.

She is survived by her children, Duane and Margaret Twait of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Richard and Margaret (Peggy) Twait of Minnesota City, Minnesota, Larry and Jan Twait of Sioux City, Iowa, Lonny (Lon) and Linda Twait of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Thomas (Tom) and Patricia Twait of Emmetsburg, Iowa and Janet (Jan) and Jack Kusch of San Antonio, Texas; fifteen grandchildren; twenty seven great grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and friends.
