WEBSTER CITY - Southfield Wellness Community, owned by ABCM Corp., is hosting a free program, "Enrichment Ideas for Dementia Care" from 4 to 5 p.m. March 8 at the Southfield Assisted Living Apartments in Webster City. The late afternoon time is designed to be more convenient for employed individuals to attend.
Marilyn Middleton, Southfield Wellness Community marketing coordinator, will present the program which will show more than 25 activities that could entertain and enrich the lives of those suffering from memory loss. Alzheimer's communication do's and don'ts will also be discussed.
Middleton said," Everyone needs stimulation and the feeling like they're contributing to society and the family - especially a person who has memory loss. These individuals appear to be disinterested, but sometimes it's because there's nothing productive for them to do."
Middleton emphasized that the key is to make a loved one feel important, needed and productive, not just a burden. Then there are many happy hours ahead for both the care giver and the loved one, she said.
Everyone who communicates with a person with memory loss could learn enrichment pointers by attending the one hour, free program.
