Berg retires as CEO?at Pharmacists

ALGONA - Edward T. Berg, chief executive officer, has retired from Pharmacists Mutual Cos. after 34 years of service.

Berg graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a bachelor of arts degree in accounting and from Drake University with a master's of business administration. He began employment at Pharmacists Mutual in 1977 as controller, began service on the board of directors in 1994 and was elected president and CEO in 2003.

He also served as president and director of the Pharmacists Mutual subsidiaries, including The Pharmacists Life Insurance Co., Pro Advantage Services Inc., PMC Quality Commitment Inc., and vice President and director of Pharmacy Marketing Group. During Berg's tenure at Phamacists Mutual president, the company doubled its revenue and assets, and currently has nearly 300 employees.

Berg has been active in many professional organizations, currently serving as vice chairman and director of the American Association of Insurance Services. he has also been a member and past officer of several community organizations. He was recognized in 2009 as a NCPA Foundation Legacy Society inductee and as the Iowa Outstanding CPA in Business and Industry in 2010.

Berg and wife Becky will continue to live in Algona.
