Competing with more of a true sense of urgency remains a top priority for the Fort Dodge wrestling team.
Bobby Thompson's Dodgers (1-4 overall, 0-2 in the league) will try to take another step forward when they welcome Waukee (5-11, 0-2) this evening for a CIML Iowa Conference dual meet on Parents and Senior Night.
Junior varsity matches begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by varsity action at 7:30 p.m.
"They're a lot like us and are pretty inexperienced in a few spots of their lineup," Thompson said of the Warriors. "They also have a few veterans sprinkled in, along with a couple of ranked guys at 152 and heavyweight. Hopefully, we can come out and fight and show some improvement from our last outing."
On Saturday, the Dodgers placed fifth at the Cedar Rapids Jefferson Invitational. Tenth-ranked (Class 3A) junior Duke Egli (160) captured his third invitational crown of the season, posting three falls on the day. Senior Ben Schnurr (220) turned in a runner-up performance as well for FDSH. Egli (20-3 overall), 132-pound senior Reed Russell (18-6), 182-pound senior Michael Licht (16-11) and Schnurr (16-7) anchor the Dodgers on the mat.
"We have to compete hard and be aggressive," said Thompson. "We also just need to stay healthy. It seems like we get one guy back and then lose another one. I'm sure it's been frustrating for our whole team."
