Man arrested on sex crime charges

LAURENS - A Laurens area man has been arrested on charges that he engaged in sexual behavior with children, the Pocahontas County Sheriff's Department reported Thursday.

Richard Holmberg, 83, is charged with lascivious acts with a child and indecent exposure, according to the sheriff's department. Deputies arrested him Wednesday at his home. He was released from the Pocahontas County Jail after posting a $6,000 bond.

Sheriff Robert Lampe said the arrest followed a lengthy investigation.

Otho man charged with felony assault

An Otho man is facing felony assault charges following an argument that left another man injured.

Michael B. Monahan, 38, of Otho, is charged with assault causing serious injury, a Class D felony. It's alleged that Monahan punched a man in the face and knocked him to the ground on Wednesday. According to court documents, when the man was already on the ground, Monahan allegedly bit off part of the man's nose.

Monahan appeared in Webster County Magistrate Court on Thursday, where Magistrate Bruce Cornell ordered him held on $5,000 bond.

Monahan's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 12.
