The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Program provides free personal income tax assistance for all taxpayers with low to middle income, with special attention to those ages 60 and older. The service prepares the tax return, electronically files the return and answers any tax questions. All services are provided free of charge.
The local AARP and IRS trained tax counselor will be available at Citizens Central, 617 Central Ave., from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. each Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each Thursday, beginning Jan. 19 and continuing through April 17. Additional days are April 13 and 16. Call Citizens Central at 573-3429 for an appointment. Walk-ins will be seen as time allows.
Taxpayers seeking assistance in preparing their income tax returns are reminded to bring last year's federal and Iowa tax returns, any tax forms, W-2s and 1099s they have received this year and any other pertinent tax information that is used in preparing their 2011 return. All AARP Tax-Aide volunteer counselors are trained in cooperation with the IRS to provide personal one-on-one assistance to help individuals complete their federal and state income tax returns.
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is sponsored and administered by the AARP Foundation.
