Aloysius J. Nilles, 90, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at Tompkins Memorial Health Center
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 6th, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Corpus Christi Cemetery with Military Rites Conducted by the V.F.W. Post 1856. Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mathias and Mary (Powers) Nilles; his wife Katie; brothers, William and Peter Nilles; sisters, Patricia Collins, Ann Loretta Cahill, Ruth Nilles, Mathia (Tice) Schultz, and Catherine Nilles.
Aloysius J. Nilles was born on January 9, 1921 in Miller, SD. At the age of 13, Al moved with his family to Fort Dodge. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1940. In 1941, he entered the U.S. Navy serving during WWII; serving on the USS Chester. Following his honorable discharge in 1945, he returned to Fort Dodge. In 1948, he made his home in Baltimore, MD; where he was united in marriage to Katie Martin on October 18, 1948. Al worked for International Harvester for 30 years, until retiring in 1978. Al and Katie returned to Fort Dodge in 1979, and later made their home at Friendship Haven in 1995.
