The Fort Dodge Civitan Club received district awards at the recent district convention of Civitan Clubs in the North Central District area.
The local club received four awards for its efforts in the last year. It received banner patches for "Awards Participant" and "Navigator," which represents the contribution of money to the Civitan International Research Center. In addition, the club received the "Outstanding Community Awareness" award for participation in decorating a tree on the City Square for December. It was decorated in the Civitan theme with little candy mints and red streamers highlighting our club.
The final award was for "Outstanding Club Bulletin." The club puts out a monthly newsletter with editor Carroll Lang providing content and doing the layout.
The Fort Dodge Civitan club is an international service organization with the main focus of projects for the disabled and for community service. The main organization is in Birmingham, Ala., and it will be celebrating 90 years next year.
The local club has been in existence since 1968 and meets weekly at 7 a.m. at Zakeer's. Nancy Leo is president. New officers will be installed Oct. 1.
