The Fort Dodge Rotary Club will host the third annual Applefest 5K-10K run/walk on Oct. 2, beginning at St. Edmond High School.
The purpose of the event is to promote healthy lifestyles and help support the Community Orchard's annual Applefest on the same weekend.
The 5K run/walk will be held at 9 a.m., and an omelet breakfast will be provided by the Iowa Central Community College's culinary arts program at 9:30 a.m. At 10 a.m., the 10K run will begin.
Packet pick up and a health fair will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 1 at the Fort Dodge REC Center, 1422 First Ave. S. There, walkers and runners can also acquire T-shirts, secure a blood pressure check and visit booths promoting a healthy lifestyle, health and fitness.
Participants can also pick up registration materials at many local businesses, including The Messenger, Nestle Purina, Fort Dodge Ford Lincoln Toyota, Village Inn, Wendy's, Active Health Chiropractic and A Stitch Above.
In addition, participants can register online before Sept. 24 at www.applefest.com.
The entry fee, by Sept. 28, is $15 for students and $20 for everyone else. All entries will be $25 on race day.

This year, the Applefest Run will contribute all proceeds to the cancer center under construction at Trinity Regional Medical Center, where "Every Option, Every Hope" is the campaign theme.
