POCAHONTAS - Alfred A. Tuma age 87, of Pocahontas, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2011, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
FUNERAL SERVICES 10:30 AM, Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011, at the Hope United Methodist Church in Pocahontas, Iowa, with Pastor Clare DeBoef officiating.
BURIAL: Summit Hill Cemetery in Pocahontas, Iowa.
VISITATION: 4 7 PM Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, at the Powers Funeral Home in Pocahontas, Iowa.
Alfred A. Tuma was born August 8, 1924, near Cotesfield, Nebraska. He was the son of Joseph and Anna (Dvoracek) Tuma. He attended country school near Cotesfield. In 1938, he moved with his family to a farm near Fonda. On February 20, 1953, Alfred married Marian Boeckholt at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple settled west of Pocahontas where they farmed and raised their family. Alfred and Marian enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona for 30 years. Alfred enjoyed attending auctions and playing the accordion, dobro and harmonica. He especially loved working on the farm and raising cattle.
Survivors include his wife, Marian of Pocahontas, children, Darlene Johnson of West Des Moines; Frank (Lea) Tuma and Merlin Tuma of Pocahontas; and Kelly (Ike) Efobi of West Des Moines; grandchildren, Bradden Tuma, Samantha Rife, Dezera Tuma, Tara Efobi and Sarah Weithers; great-grandchildren, Hope Tuma, Harper and Davis Rife; and a brother, Vencl (Mary) Tuma of California.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Venus who died in childhood; brother, Stanley and grandchildren, Joshua and Heather.
