FARNHAMVILLE - Caroline Rose Lusmann, age 84, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, May 14, 2011 following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Farnhamville with Pastor Robert Zellmer officiating. Burial will be in the Reading Township Cemetery, Farnhamville. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 17 starting at 5:00 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Home in Gowrie.
Caroline was born on February 8, 1927 to Carl and Bertha (Vogel) Kopecky in the family home in Churdan. She attended Rinard Schools from elementary through high school. Following high school, she attended cosmetology school in Des Moines. Caroline married Walter Lusmann on May 16, 1948 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Farnhamville. After they were married, she opened her own beauty shop at their home, retiring only shortly before her death. Caroline enjoyed her time spent working in the garden, volunteering for the Farnhamville Betterment Club, attending bible study at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, and watching college basketball. She was a member of the Ladies Aid, choir at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and LWML. She also enjoyed working in the beauty shop and the friendships she developed with her clients.
Survivors include her husband, Walter; son, Neil Lusmann (Lori) of Rockford, Illinois; daughter, Michele Staub (Dan) of Urbandale; grandchildren, Ryan Lusmann (Michelle), Ashley Dowell (Will), Tyler Lusmann (Pilar), Jarrod Lusmann, Kyle Lusmann, Evan Lusmann, and Morgan Staub; sister, Bert Kirchhoff (Gordon) of Humboldt; nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers, Frank Kopecky and Carl Joseph Kopecky.
