Doris V. (McNeil) Hennings, 87, of Fort Dodge, died on Friday March 25, 2011. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday March 31, 2011 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Edward Durand officiating. Burial will follow at North Lawn Cemetery. The visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
Doris was born in Somers, IA on April 11, 1923 to Raymond and Ella McNeil. She attended school in Somers and then graduated from Fort Dodge High School. She married James A. Hennings on March 24, 1945 in Britt, IA. She lived in the home that she, her father and husband all built together in 1952. She was a homemaker of her 6 children that she loved very much. She also worked as a dietary aide for many years retiring from Friendship Haven in 1984. She loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling and vacations, bird watching, singing, puzzles and taking care of her cat Smokey. She was a very loving and giving person who always put others first.
Doris is survived by her children, Sandra (Richard) Malloy; Dennis (Sharon) Hennings; Dorinda Waldschmidt; William (Barb) Hennings; Paulette Smith and Sally (Larry) Rice; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband James A. Hennings; her parents Raymond and Ella McNeil; her sons Reginald Curtis Hennings and Thomas Scott Hennings; her brother Raymond (Bud) McNeil; her sister Erma Carr and her grandson Brad Smith.
