Dear fellow citizens of Fort Dodge:
As 2010 comes to a close, I want to wish you and your family a Happy New Year. As we enter this New Year, I wanted to share with you how we have grown as a community in 2010.
Following the path laid out a few short years ago when our community put together Envision 2030, we, as a city, have accomplished many of our goals requested by your valuable input.
As citizens, you requested that we evaluate the effectiveness of public safety.
Because of this evaluation, we listened and were able to provide new equipment for our Fire Department. We were also able to expand our Police Department with additional officers.
Our city can be very proud this year with the opening of our new state of the art aquatics facility, Rosedale Rapids.
Our plans in 2011 are to start on a comprehensive trail system connecting neighborhoods and parks.
With the loss of jobs to our region, a very aggressive campaign to recruit jobs both externally and internally brought investment to the region.
Fort Dodge and the region's economy remained sound because of employer's investments and a diverse industrial climate.
Thank you for your patience with a busy year of roadwork.
Innovative improvements to our corridor, coupled with our investment with a new retail development to start in the spring with Kohl's as a major anchor store, is a substantial step for our city and a catalyst for more development.
In closing, I would like to thank the citizens of our great city for this opportunity and look forward to collaborating toward more improvements in 2011.
Thank you to the City Council, city staff and David Fierke, city manager, for all of your hard work.
Their efforts make it all possible. Thank you for your faith and confidence in me as your mayor.
I will work diligently in 2011 to continue to improve the place we all call home.
God bless you and your family.
Well wishes to all.
