The expansion of one institution has led to the expansion of another with the recent move of church offices off the Iowa Central Community College campus.

The Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod's Iowa District West offices are now at 409 Kenyon Road after years of talks with Iowa Central about acquiring the Lutheran church's property at 1317 Tower Drive.

"It was nice seeing the college kids go by everyday, but as the college grew there become more traffic and it became apparent to we needed to move," said the Rev. Paul Sieveking, president of Iowa District West.

The Iowa Central board of trustees approved the purchase of the property for $350,000 during its April board meeting, and the church offices have just recently made the move to Kenyon Road this month

It's a move that will benefit both parties, said Sieveking.

Not only does Iowa Central have more room for expansion, the church office's new building offers more space, more technology and a classroom for religious instruction.

"It's a nicer working space for our staff and the transition went very smoothly," said Sieveking.

The district office will be holding an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Dec. 18 to feature the new building.

The open house will feature informal tours, "goodies" and visitors are asked to bring a canned food item to donate to the food pantry of Proteus Inc., a nonprofit organization adjacent to the new office which helps low-income farm workers.

"It's our opportunity to showcase our facilities to the community," said Roger Curtis, business manager.

The church's old building will also be put to used by the college, instead of being torn down, according to Iowa Central officials.

"We haven't made any decisions about who's moving into that building yet," said Board Secretary Karen Lombard. "There's been a lot of talk about it but a decision probably won't be made until January."

The Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod's Iowa District West is one of 35 districts in the United States and oversees 177 congregations serving 63,000 people in western Iowa.
