"We're not campaigning anymore," President Barack Obama lectured in his reaction to a comment by Sen. John McCain during last month's "summit meeting" on health care. Obama's comment referred to the fact that McCain, D-Ariz., was his opponent in the 2008 presidential election.
McCain was not "campaigning." He was merely making a point about health care policy.
In contrast, however, Obama appears to fit uncomfortably in the "people who live in glass houses" category.
During his first year in office, Obama made 160 flights on Air Force One, held 42 news conferences and made 411 speeches and other recorded comments - 178 of them complicated enough that he used teleprompters.
The president attended 23 "town hall" meetings, granted 158 interviews with journalists, visited 30 states and went to 21 other countries. He also held 28 political fundraisers.
In terms of public appearances, Obama has far outstripped most other presidents. Yet he believes it is appropriate to lecture McCain.
Obama clearly is campaigning for all he is worth.
