MASON CITY - Junior Lincoln Vorba scored a career-high 38 points - the most by a Mohawk since Jeff Horner's 43 in 2002 - as Mason City edged Fort Dodge 67-61 in CIML Iowa Conference action here Monday.

Vorba hit seven three-pointers, almost single-handedly keeping the Dodgers (4-5 overall, 0-4 in the league) at bay against the Mohawks (2-8, 1-3).

Darreus Caston had 15 points to pace FDSH, which took a 45-43 lead into the final quarter.

Tied at 49-49, Vorba hit his seventh 3-pointer of the night with 5:28 to play in regulation and the Mohawks never looked back.

"It's obviously incredibly frustrating, given also what happened to us at Marshalltown (when Chanse Creekmur had 42 points earlier in the year)," Dodger head coach Tom Daniel said. "To allow those kind of points and career performances - I don't know if it's just on us, or giving credit to the kid for making shots with a hand in his face. Probably both. Either way, we have to do a better job defensively. The bottom line is that you have to find a way and make plays down the stretch on the road. We did that (at Indianola) on Saturday - we didn't (last night)."

Vorba hit six free throws in the final minute for the Mohawks.

Sam Peters added 14 points and Jay Johnson 11 for Fort Dodge, which returns to action with home games on Friday (Marshalltown) and Saturday (Mason City).

"We had some opportunities, but missed putbacks and didn't rebound particularly well," Daniel said. "Darreus hit some big threes, Sam did a nice job, and Jay was playing hurt.

"We're not shooting the ball well right now. Teams will continue to zone us until we prove we can knock down open looks."
