Dodgers swim at Boone Invite
BOONE - The Fort Dodge boys swim team placed fifth this Saturday at the Boone Invitational.
The youthful squad's best event came with a second place from Joe Bruen and Jim McCormack in the two by 100 yard backstroke.
Marshalltown took the team title while Southeast Polk claimed runner-up honors. Carroll and Boone placed third and fourth with the Dodgers just behind, and Storm Lake placed sixth.
Head coach Joel Greathouse wasn't displeased with the results considering the inexperience of his team.
"It was a pretty tough meet overall. We've had some injuries and have just one senior and one junior in the lineup, so we're working on getting experienced," said Greathouse. "We have some talent, but it is yet to bloom this early in the process.
"This wasn't a bad starter meet for us."
The Dodgers top finish came from sophomore Joe Bruen and junior Jim McCormack finished second in the two by 100-yard backstroke with a time of 2:06.10.
"Bruen and McCormack gave us a very good finish," said Greathouse. "They had some solid teams, and that is pretty good to see this early in the year."
The Dodgers 200 medley relay team of Bruen, sophomore Colin Pearson, freshman Cal Brandt and McCormack placed third as well with a time of 1:52.10.
"Our medley relay team had a pretty good day," said Greathouse. "Other than that, it was pretty tough for us and that can be expected with the competition and our inexperience so far."
Fort Dodge will hit the pool next at home against Indianola Monday. Start time is set for 6 p.m.
