CEDAR RAPIDS - Charles "Charlie" Kent Spike, 82, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, November 23, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, November 27, 2009 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, temporarily located at 3100 F Avenue NW. Burial will be in Fort Dodge Memorial Cemetery in Fort Dodge. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Friday at the Chapel. Full military rites will be conducted by the Hanford American Post 5.
Charles was born May 20, 1927 in Fort Dodge, the son of Earl and Evelyn Ekstrom Spike. Charles was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II. He married Luella Walrod on January 1, 1948 in Fort Dodge. He was a tool and die maker for over 33 years Square D retiring in January 4, 1993. Charlie was an avid bowler, playing bingo and enjoyed going out to eat. Charlie loved spending with the cats and dogs.
Charlie is survived by his wife Luella and his daughter Cynthia Spike of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Howard Spike and a sister Betty Stufflebeam.
