ROCKWELL CITY - Carl M. Block 66, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home, Ft. Dodge. His wishes were to be cremated and no services planned. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Iowa Heart Foundation, 5880 University Ave., Suite 101, West Des Moines, IA 50266. Palmer & Swank Funeral Home is serving the family.
Carl is survived by his wife Judith; daughters, Carla (Don) Wielmanne of Richmond, MI and Amy (Chris) Ferry of Rockwell City; son Dean (Erica) Block of Thornton, CO; sisters, Louise (Aubrey) King of Manson and Grace (Loren) Tiernan of Pocahontas; brothers, Harold (Marilyn) Block of Loveland, CO and James (Janet) Block of Humboldt; sisters-in-law, Sharon (David) Knauth of Big Fork, MT and Arlowyn Graham of Longmont, CO; 7 grandchildren, Rory and Courtney Mazur, Isabel and Lila Ferry, and Saylah, Gretchen, and Braelyne Block; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Aleath Turley Block.
Carl Maurice Block was born Mar. 31, 1943 at Rolfe, IA. He attended Rolfe Schools and graduated from Longmont High School in Longmont, CO. Carl served in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Iowa and then Longmont, where he was a mixer driver for the Golden Concrete Co. He then worked as the head mechanic for Amoco Oil Co. in Commerce City, CO. On Aug. 24, 1974 he was united in marriage to Judith Alexander at Longmont. Carl was a member of VFW and American Legion. He was a man of many talents from poetry to art. He will be deeply missed by all that loved him.
