Jury selection in murder trial begins

Jury selection in the trial of Angel Dejesus Vega-Sanchez is set to begin at 9 a.m. in Iowa District Court for Webster County.
Vega-Sanchez, 29, is charged with the first-degree murder of his wife, Rachelle Vega, at 1323 Fifth Ave. S., on May 17.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge on May 27.
According to court documents, Vega, 42, was hiding from her husband at the house on Fifth Avenue South when he allegedly came inside and shot her while she was sitting on a couch.
A 911 call came in to the Webster County Law Enforcement Center at approximately 4 a.m. in reference to a possible shooting.
She was taken by ambulance to Trinity Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
Vega-Sanchez was arrested on May 17 and made his initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court on May 18. He was ordered held in the Webster County Jail under $1 million bond, where he has remained since he was arrested.
Mario Isai Jimenez Ramos, 25, of Fort Dodge, was arrested as a material witness in the case on May 17.
Ramos was born and raised in Mexico and has lived in Fort Dodge less than a year, according to papers filed with the Webster County Clerk of Court. According to court files, Ramos has no relatives in the area and intended to move back to Mexico.
Ramos has been held in the Webster County Jail under a $500,000 bond since he was arrested.
Laura Roan, from the Area Prosecutions in the Attorney General's Office will be assisting Webster County Attorney Ricki Osborn in prosecuting the case.
James Koll is listed as Vega-Sanchez's defense attorney.
