BOXHOLM - Two people were hurt in a grain dryer explosion at the West Central Cooperative in Boxholm shortly before 9 a.m. today.
The two injuries are said to be non-life threatening, according to Sarah Dorman, communications specialist for West Central.
The two employees were transferred to area medical facilities, Dorman said. However, one of the two people was taken by air ambulance, reportedly to a Des Moines facility.
One person involved in the explosion has been treated and released and the other is still being examined, Dorman said.
Names and conditions are not yet available.
Emergency crews are expected to be off the scene by mid afternoon. The damage was contained to the dryer and there was no damage to the elevator.
Dorman said the dryer was a modern, medium-size dryer. Cause of the explosion has not been determined.
Dave Morlan, Boone County Emergency Management, said there was approximately 1,500 bushels of corn in the dryer. The fire, he said, apparently started in the top section.
Fires of this nature aren't unusual, he said, however there seems to be a greater number this year. Morlan said they had responded to three similar incidents on private property recently.
Ogden First Responders, Pilot Mound Fire Department, Boone Fire Department. Boone County Sheriff's department and the Ogden Police Department responded.
