PEORIA, Ill - The Iowa Central men's and women's cross country teams closed stellar seasons with another impressive finish on the national stage.
The back-to-back national championship women's squad came in second place while the men's team placed eighth at the NJCAA Cross Country Championships.
On the women's side, Agnes Kapsoiyo earned NJCAA All-American accolades as well as Terence Lee on the men's side.
The top-ranked Central Arizona women's team put a halt to Iowa Central's run as title holders with a first place, 92 point performance. The third-ranked Tritons finished with runner-up honors with 123 points.
Agnes Kapsoiyo broke the tape in 18:31 to lead the women with a 10th place finish. The top-15 finish gave Kapsioya NCJAA All-American for her second time.
Three other Triton women placed in the top-30 with Nancy Bor placing 18th (19:03), Amanda Vorthmann finishing 26th (19:20) and a 30th place finish by Cayla Keller (19:29).
Vortzman and Keller were coaches association All-Americans for U.S. citizens in the Top-25.
Ashley Ameling finished 39th (19:41), Shelbie Pettie finished 73rd (20:34) and Catie Keller placed 112th (21:09) to round out the Triton line-up.
"The girls did a great job. They finished another great season with a very impressive finish," said Brown. "They all ran hard and did what they needed to do to place well. I am very happy with that."
Lee led the men's team to their eighth place finish, placing 32nd overall with a time of 26:39. Anthony Lieghio placed 52nd with a time of 27:16 to lead the way as well.
Liberio Niyiragira (53rd, 27:17), Tomas Cotter (54th, 27:17), Levi Long (59th, 27:25), Matt Juhl (105th, 28:16) and Josh Fick (120th, 28:31) round out the finished for the men's runners.
"We went in with a little higher expectations coming in and it didn't really come together how they wanted it too," said Brown. "They all ran their hearts out and gave it their best effort, and I am happy with how they did. It still has been a fantastic season."
