VERONICA LUCILLE (BOX) WALSH

Veronica Lucille (Box) Walsh, age 94, of Fort Dodge, died at the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center. She peacefully joined her family in Heaven on November 9, 2009.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 13th in the Chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in St Joseph's Cemetery, Barnum. Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, were there will be a Catholic Daughters of the Americas Rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a vigil at 7:00 p.m.

Veronica was born June 26, 1915 and lived in Fort Dodge where she attended Sacred Heart School, and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School. On June 1, 1937 Veronica married Vincent D. Walsh. They resided on the Walsh family farm near Moorland, IA until 1969, when they built a home west of Fort Dodge.

Two children were born to this union: Anita (Jerry) Johnson of Eagle Grove, and Ronald (Onalee) Walsh of Moorland; eight grandchildren: Roxanne Flaherty, Kurt (Fran) Johnson, Denise (Tom) Peterson, Dennis (Tammy) Johnson, Kenny (Donna) Johnson, Stephen Walsh, Cynthia Walsh, and Joanne (Vijay) Malleta; 11 great-grandchildren; 6 step great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 2 step great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Florence (Rolow) and Donald F. Box; her husband Vincent on December 9, 1999; son, Ronald on July 7, 2004; sisters Dorothy (Box) Wilson, Shirley (Box) Macken; brother, Donald J. Box.

Veronica was active in Bowling for 60 years. She was a member of the Women's Hall of Fame, Bowling Association and was Secretary for many years. She was honored by the Iowa Bowling Association to deliver the first ball to begin the Women's State Tournament held in Fort Dodge in 1995. Veronica also worked with the Extension Office and worked with 4-H for many years. She taught sewing classes for Iowa Central Community College and was employed in retail sales. Vince and Veronica enjoyed music and dancing of all kinds, especially the Big Band Era. They belonged to the Fort Dodge Dance Club for many years. She was a life member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Veronica volunteered in many community activities as well as her church, St Joseph Catholic Church in Barnum. Her faith and the love of her family sustained her.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
