One man was injured in an apparent shooting in downtown Fort Dodge Thursday night.
Police stopped a Chevrolet Cavalier carrying the victim at the intersection of First Avenue South and Eighth Street. He was treated at that location by officers. firefighters and paramedics from Trinity Regional Medical Center before being taken to the hospital.
Later, officers cordoned off an alley in the rear of the 800 block of First Avenue North and scoured the area for evidence. Also, the parking lot to the west of The Bike Shop was surrounded with crime scene tape. Officers were searching the area between the houses in the 100 block of North Eighth Street.
Chad Wilson, who lives in the 100 block of North Eighth Street, said he heard eight to10 gunshots.
''They just started popping off,'' he said.
Wilson said he looked out the window to see what was happening. He said he heard people shouting and saw some of them getting into a car behind the Fort Dodge Event Center, 710 First Ave. N.
Webster County sheriff's deputies also responded to the incident.
The incident was reported at about 9:50 p.m.
