ROCKWELL CITY - Eugene J. Helle, 67, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009 at Trinity Regional Medical Center, Fort Dodge.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Rockwell City, with the Rev. James Hoover Mossman officiating. Burial will be at St. Olaf Cemetery in Bode. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City. There will be a military flag presentation at the Church by the Rockwell City Veterans Organization.
Gene is survived by his wife Julie; sons, Scott (Jenny) Helle of Rockwell City, and Shad (Tara) Helle of Emmetsburg; stepdaughters, Lisa (Zach) Ross of Green Isle, Minn., and Laura (Preston) Skaggs of Milwaukie, Ore.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his mother Verna Miller of Humboldt; brothers, Michael (Charlene) Helle of Sacramento, Calif., Greg (Lyn) Helle of Johnston, and Mark (Sharon) Helle of Dakota City; sisters, Karen (Jo) Cran of Warroad, Minn., and Susan (Frank) Bringleson of Curlew. He was preceded in death by his father Albert Helle; and brother Bruce Helle.
Eugene Joel Helle was born June 26, 1942 at Bode, Iowa. He graduated from Humboldt High School with the Class of 1960. Following his education, Gene served in the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge, he was united in marriage to Drucilla Harmon. Gene was a meat cutter all his life. He had owned and operated Gene's Locker in Fenton for many years. In 1987, Gene established his home in Rockwell City, where he worked at Jim's Super Valu and then Jubilee Foods. He also owned and operated Gene's Fix It & More in Rockwell City, until his death. On July 6, 1991, he was united in marriage to Julie Mills Hlubek at Rockwell City. Gene was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Rockwell City.
