Gowrie woman dies in crash

OTHO - Helen Nelson, 88, of Gowrie, was killed Friday morning in a traffic accident at U.S. Highway 169 and Theater Road just south of Fort Dodge when her 2005 Chrysler Sebring was struck by a pickup.
According to the Iowa State Patrol accident report, Nelson had stopped at the stop sign on Theater Road, but in the process of turning left pulled in front of a 1999 Ford F-150 pickup driven by Micah Bartlett, 28, of Fort Dodge. Bartlett was southbound in the left lane of traffic. The report stated that Bartlett did not have time to stop before striking the driver's side door of Nelson's vehicle.
Otho Fire Department crews used extraction equipment to remove Nelson from her vehicle before she was transported to Trinity Regional Medical Center where she later died. Crews were performing CPR at the scene.
Bartlett suffered minor injuries in the 10:12 a.m. accident and was transported to Trinity Regional Medical Center by private vehicle.
Otho Fire Department, the Webster County Sheriff's Department and the Iowa State Patrol responded to the accident.
