Proposed budget cuts to impact local correctional facilities

October 21, 2009

Fifty-one positions at the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility are expected to be eliminated due to state-wide budget cuts. Twenty-seven positions at the facility were already vacant and will not be filled, according to public relations officials at the Iowa Department of Corrections.

At the North Central Correctional Facility in Rockwell City, 19 staff positions will most likely be cut including nine that are currently filled.

Personnel will be cut from across the board - ranging from security to treatment and administration personnel.

The cuts come after an order from Gov. Chet Culver to cut the state's budget by 10 percent.

State departments submitted their proposals to Culver and departmental plans are to be finalized by Oct. 28.
