EDNA LAVERN URELIUS

FARNHAMVILLE - Edna LaVern Urelius, 94, died Sunday, October 18, 2009 at Sunny Knoll Care Centre, Rockwell City. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Gowrie with Pastor Jim Davis officiating. Burial will be in Dayton Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday (today) at the Palmer Funeral Home in Gowrie.

Survivors include daughter, Leaetta Hawthorne and husband, Ron of Poughkeepsie, NY; son, Alan Urelius and wife, June of Farnhamville; and daughter, Gloria West and husband Joel of Lohrville; grandchildren, Richard Hawthorne and wife Laura, Steve Hawthorne and wife Meg, Anne Hallen and husband Johan, Mike Hawthorne, and Marcus Urelius; two step-grandchildren, Amy Grubisich and husband Jason, and Alex Farley; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Aneta Nelson of Greenfield, IA, Cletis Nutting of Mesa, AZ, Inez Estlund of Atlanta, GA, and Imogene Rohovit of St. Paul, MN. Preceding her in death were her parents, Henry and Marie (Schnormeier) Saucke; husband, Vincent Urelius; sister, Evelyn Saucke; and brothers, Ted Saucke, Omar Saucke and Orlan Saucke.

Edna LaVern Saucke was born on January 24, 1915, near Farnhamville on the family farm. She was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Farnhamville. She attended country school in Reading Township and graduated from Farnhamville High School. LaVern was united in marriage to Vincent Urelius on December 25, 1939 in Zion Lutheran Church in Gowrie. After farming in the Palm Grove area for 5 years, they moved to the Saucke family farm southwest of Farnhamville. LaVern was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, WELCA, and the Farm Bureau Women's' Group.

Memorials may be left at the family's discretion.
