Dorothy Mae Cook, 77, of Fort Dodge, peacefully entered into God's heavenly home Thursday, August 6, 2009 at Trinity Regional Medical Center with her family at her side.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 10th in the chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy and Rev. Tim Johnson concelebrating at the Mass of Christian Burial. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where there will be a Legion of Mary and Catholic Daughters of the Americas Rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a vigil at 6:00 p.m.
Dorothy (Karns) Cook was born July 10, 1932 in Cabery, Illinois to James Karns and Winifred (Carney) Karns. Dorothy married Dale Cook May 18, 1952 in Kankakee, Illinois. Dorothy is survived by sons Gary (Deb) Cook of Moorland, Gery Cook of Fort Dodge, Larry (Lori) Cook of Moorland, and Terry Cook of Fort Dodge; daughters, Mary (Tony) Sunken and Keri Cook, both of Fort Dodge; grandchildren, Toby (Amber) Anderson, Ashley (Jeff) Dockendorf, Jennifer Cook, Erica Cook, Jessica Sunken, Shelby Sunken, Nicole Hagar, Nic Hagar, Nolan Hagar; and many of Gery's foster children; great-grandchildren, Cody, Alexis and Makenna Anderson; sister, Rita Benfield; brother, Merle Karns; and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Dale; daughter, Sherry; her parents James and Winifred Karns; brothers, Frank and Hugh Karns; sister Ruth Burton.
Dorothy lived a wonderful and full life. She cherished spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed spending time at her cabin at Twin Lakes. She dearly loved meeting and helping others through out her life and as a Legion of Mary member, she said the Rosary at the Villa Care for many years. She was a Social Worker for the Department of Human Services for over 20 years. After she retired, she worked at the Information Desk at TRMC for over 10 years and was currently employed there until her death. Dorothy will be greatly missed by her close family, friends, and her coworkers.
