Eva E. Johnson, 91, died Friday, July 17, 2009 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 20, at the Celebration Center, Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge with Revs. Gary Bird and Percy Wally officiating. A lunch will be served immediately following the service at the Celebration Center. Burial will be in Otho Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge.
Eva E. Findlay, the daughter of Raymond and Elizabeth (Walton) Findlay, was born October 1, 1917, in Otho. She graduated from Otho High School in 1934 and attended Iowa State Teachers College and Drake University. On June 1, 1941, Eva was united in marriage to Truman Johnson at Otho. The couple lived on a farm near Burnside. Eva was employed with the Southeast Webster Community School District where she taught in the special education and learning disabilities departments. In 1975, the couple moved into Burnside and Eva retired from teaching in 1982. Truman preceded her in death in 1998.
Eva was a long-time member of the Burnside American Baptist Church until its closing, and more recently was a member of First Baptist Church in Fort Dodge. She was a deaconess and was active in the Baptist Women's Ministries. She was a member of the Retired Teachers, the Lehigh Women's Club and the Dayton Country Club. Eva enjoyed knitting and music.
Eva is survived by her children, William R. (Susan) Johnson of Winfield, IL; Robert D. (Mary) Johnson of Nevada, IA; Barry T. (Judy) Johnson of Arnold, MO; Betty L. (Steve) Froyd of Lake Mary, FL; seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, five great grandchildren and four step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two sisters, Eleanor Rodger and Genevieve Layman.
