RICHARD LEE KELLEY

LAKE CITY -Richard Lee Kelley, 61, died Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Des Moines.

Richard was born January 10, 1948, in Sioux City, Iowa to Delbert and Velma (Martin) Kelley. Early in his childhood he lived with his family in Correctionville and Early before settling in Lake City. He was a 1966 graduate of Lake City High School. Before enlisting in the US Navy he worked in the parts department of Snyder's John Deere Dealership. He served as a medic in the Navy, serving in VietNam and was awarded the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts for his service. In 1974 he was married to Linda Roberts, the couple later divorced. Richard continued serving in the Navy until he became disabled in 1984.

Richard is survived by his daughter, Shannon (Andy) Russell of Boone; two granddaughters, Keeley and Kaylee Russell; brother, Don (Tammy) Kelley of Otho; sister, Viola (Don) Everhart of Lohrville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2009 at Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City with visitation Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lampe Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Lake City Cemetery with military rites by the Lake City American Legion Post #31 and V.F.W. Post #1899.
