One person was injured when a semitrailer hit a car at the intersection of U.S. Highway 169 and Iowa Highway 7 in Fort Dodge Tuesday night.

Information on the identity and condition of the individual, who was taken to Trinity Regional Medical Center, wasn't available late Tuesday night.

The truck was northbound on U.S. Highway 169 when its driver, Walter L. Edrington, 62, of Witt, Ill., failed to stop at a stop sign, according to Webster County Deputy Sheriff Rod Strait. Strait said the truck entered the intersection and hit a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix. The collision forced the car up into a highway median where it knocked over a lamppost.

Strait said live electric wires were exposed when the lamppost fell.

The crash happened at about 8:35 p.m.

Strait said the car is owned by Thomas and Jan Condon, of Barnum. He didn't know who was driving it.

He said Edrington will be charged with failure to obey a stop sign.

Fort Dodge firefighters and police, Trinity Regional Medical Center paramedics and personnel from the city Public Works Department and MidAmerican Energy assisted sheriff's deputies at the scene.
