KENNETH D. SANDSTROM

BURNSIDE - Kenneth D. Sandstrom 81, went to be with his Lord on Friday, June 26, 2009 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home, Ft. Dodge. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 29, at the United Methodist Church, Dayton, with Pastor Craig Vote officiating. Burial will be at Dayton Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Palmer Funeral Home, Gowrie. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.

Kenneth is survived by his wife of 61 years, Phyllis; children, Michael (Deborah) Sandstrom of Burnside, Deborah (Roy) Cummins of Vincent, Kevin (Sheryl) Sandstrom of Harcourt, Michele (Randy) Rosenquist of Marshall, TX, Kim (Bruce) Rieken of Harcourt, Drew (Kathy) Sandstrom of Flagstaff, AZ; 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and sister Annette (Keith) Housken of Marcus. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Elizabeth Peterson Sandstrom; infant son Joseph; and great-grandsons, Kyle and Jonah.

Kenneth Dwayne Sandstrom was born March 31, 1928 at Ft. Dodge. He graduated from Burnside High School, with the Class of 1945. In 1947, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Joann Boker and seven children were born to this union. Kenneth farmed in the Burnside area for 50 years, until his retirement in 1997. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed playing basketball, baseball, softball, and bowling. He also loved spending time with his family. He was a member of the United Evangelical Covenant Church in Harcourt.
