Renwick man pleads guilty to involuntary manslaughter
Michael Zamora pleaded guilty today to involuntary manslaughter in connection with the 2008 death of Colby Pettigrew.
Zamora, 20, of Renwick, admitted in Webster County District Court that he and Pettigrew, 20, of Fort Dodge were involved in a confrontation outside of the Kum and Go, 1601 Fifth Ave. S., on the night of Pettigrew's death.
"As a result of the confrontation, he must have in some way died," Zamora said in the proceedings.
Investigators said it appeared Pettigrew was dragged by the truck or hit his head on the street.
Zamora also pleaded guilty to second-degree robbery in an attempted robbery that took place three days before Pettigrew's death.
Zamora admitted that he did participate in the robbery, but he said that he was not armed.
With the guilty pleas, Zamora has waived his rights to a trial by jury. Sentencing in the case is set for July 27.
