Area girls state track preview
By JOSH MEYER, Messenger Sports WriterDES MOINES - Manson Northwest Webster senior track standout Kelsey Sukovaty is no stranger to the state's biggest stage.
Sukovaty shined here last year inside Drake Stadium, earning gold in the Class 2A shot put.
Now, Sukovaty aims for an encore performance here today in that same event.
Junior Morgan Markert will compete in the long jump for the district champion Cougars, while classmate Lauren Becker (discus), sophomore Ashley Markert (400-meter hurdles), the shuttle hurdle relay, 4x100, 4x200, 4x400, sprint medley and distance medley are all set to participate as well for MNW.
The Cougar 4x400 took top honors in 2008.
Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer
The Maiden duo of Sarah Stoulil and Autum Miller will each compete in the high jump.
Michelle Hubbell (800-meter run), Breanah Krips (100-meter hurdles), shuttle hurdle and 4x800 are the other Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer entries.
Miller placed 17th in the high jump a year ago.
East Sac County
Senior Mallory Mork hopes to improve on last season's eighth-place showing in the 400-meter hurdles. Mork will be in the 100-meter dash as well for the Raiders.
Holly Neutzman (1500-meter run), Ashley Mohr (100-meter hurdles) and the 4x100 round out the list of participants for East Sac County.
The Raider 4x100 finished fifth a year ago.
Clarion-Goldfield
Maggie Marker and Zaneta Novotna will both run the 100-meter dash for the Cowgirls.
Clarion-Goldfield's 4x200 and sprint medley will also be in action.
Emmetsburg
Kayla Herbers (200-meter dash) and Nicole Leuer (100-meter hurdles) are the lone individual qualifiers for the E-Hawks.
Emmetsburg will run the shuttle hurdle and 4x100 as well.
Humboldt
Wildcat senior Kyla Peters is set to participate in the shot put and discus. Teammate Katie Fevold will run the 1500 and 3000.
Peters collected bronze in the discus last season.
Eagle Grove
McKristie Jeske will take part in the long jump for the Eagles, while Julie Cherry competes in the 400-meter hurdles for Eagle Grove.
Algona
Bulldog sophomore Mackenzie Siefken will toss both the discus and shot put.
Annie Klepper (800-meter run), Brandee Hockett (100-meter hurdles), Jade Simpson (high jump), Brooke Benschoter (high jump), the 4x200 and 4x800 are all in attendance as well for Algona.
Webster City
Junior Michaela Pruismann will be busy for the Lynx, as she runs the 100, 200 and 400.
Britney Roberts (800-meter run), the shuttle hurdle, 4x800, sprint medley and distance medley are also in attendance for Webster City.
Southern Cal
Jill Parker is slated to compete in the discus and shot put for the Mustangs.
Chelsey Henkenius (400-meter dash), the shuttle hurdle, 4x100, 4x200 and sprint medley round out the Southern Cal events.
The Mustang shuttle hurdle came in fifth last season, while their sprint medley was 10th. In addition, Parker placed 14th in the shot put and Henkenius was 14th in the 400-meter dash.
West Bend-Mallard
Missy Abrahamson and Jessica Abrahamson will each take part in the shot put and discus for the Wolverines.
Brooke Bennett (3000-meter run) and distance medley will be in action as well for West Bend-Mallard.
North Sentral Kossuth
Kaley Lempke (100-meter dash) and Rebekah Rolling (high jump) highlight the Eagle individual events.
North Sentral Kossuth will run the 4x400, 4x800 and distance medley as well.
Bishop Garrigan
Addison Miller and Shanna Miller will both run the 400-meter hurdles for the Golden Bears.
Newell-Fonda
Senior Rachel Culp (1500-meter run) represents the Mustangs.
Rockwell City-Lytton
Wildcat junior Brenna Lantz will compete in the 1500.
