RICHARD C. ANDERSON

ALBERT CITY - Richard C. Anderson, 84, of Albert City, formerly of Fort Dodge, died May 19, 2009, in Albert City.

Services will be 2 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2009 at First Covenant Church, Fort Dodge, with the Rev. Rob Sabin officiating. Interment will be in the Lost Grove Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by V.F.W. Post No. 1856. The visitation is today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Memorials may be directed to the First Covenant Church or to the Twin Lakes Christian Center.

Richard is survived by his wife Maynette, Albert City; children, Jane (Ted) Williams, Roseville, Minn.; Janet (Sid) Peterson, Albert City; James (Karin) Anderson, Lake Elmo, Minn.; nine grandchildren; and a sister Katheryn (Omar) Burkgren, Fort Dodge. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Edward, his brother Darwin, his two sisters, Irene Wiley and Evelyn Wiley, and a brother-in-law Harold Wiley.

Richard C. Anderson, the son of Gilbert and Edna (Carlson) Anderson, was born June 28, 1924, near Harcourt. He was reared and educated in the Harcourt and Lanyon areas. Richard enlisted into the U.S. Navy at the age of 17, during World War II, serving from 1941 to 1945 and he was active in the Naval Reserves through 1952 and was called to serve during the Korean Conflict. Richard was united in marriage to Maynette Swalin on March 28, 1953 in Pomeroy. Richard was employed as a service representative for the National Cash Register Company for 31 years, before retiring in 1982. Richard lived most of his adult life in Fort Dodge until moving to Albert City in 2008.

Richard was an active member of First Covenant Church where he served as financial secretary and trustee. He was a deacon, Sunday school treasurer, usher and youth leader. He enjoyed camping, fishing and woodworking. Richard and Maynette loved to travel and spend their winters in Mesa, Ariz.
