Fonda hit with two burglaries
By BRENNA SMITH, For The MessengerFONDA - Three teenagers were arrested Tuesday for their involvement in two separate burglaries in Fonda.
Fonda Police Chief Alex Leu said a 16-year-old male broke into the Roadside Cafe at 10 a.m. and stole around $100 in soda, candy and change. The teen caused minor damage to the restaurant when he entered the building, Leu said.
An investigation led Leu to the stolen property and the suspect, who is a resident of Kingman, Ariz. The individual was referred to the Juvenile Court on a third-degree burglary charge, a Class D felony, according to Leu.
Police received a call around 11 p.m. to investigate a separate burglary in progress. A car, located at 206 Franklin St., was the subject of a break-in. Two people fled the scene after breaking into a car and stealing its stereo. The stereo, valued at $500, was dropped during the escape.
When the two returned to the scene to recover the stereo and their vehicle, Leu arrested them. Both were charged with third-degree burglary to a motor vehicle.
The juvenile, 17, of Varina, was referred to Juvenile Court, and Rolando Castillo, 18, Storm Lake, was held at the Pocahontas County Jail on a bond of $2,000.
"It was a long day of 24 hours of work," Leu said. "(About) one day a month, Fonda has its shining moment - and this was it."
